Severe Toothache
Toothache is when you experience pain from a particular tooth or in the jaw adjacent to the tooth. The pain can be very mild or extremely severe - especially when you chew. Pain that is dull and throbbing and keeps you awake at night should be seen immediately. It usually indicates dental infection or the onset of a dental infection.
Lost Filling or Crown
A lost crown or filling may or may not cause pain. Either way, dental attention should be sought as the situation may lead to pain, dental decay or the possibility of losing the tooth. The earlier dental treatment is received, the less complicated (and costly) the dental treatment will be.
Remember to bring the lost crown (if retrieved) with you so that it can be recemented!
Broken or Chipped tooth
If you suspect that you have a broken tooth then you should visit your dentist immediately because he will be able to determine the cause and also be able to offer the best treatment to avoid further damage. If you manage to save your broken tooth then make sure that you take it along to the dentist to see if there is a possibility to attach your tooth back into place.
Dental abscess is a mouth infection that starts in the mouth and can spread to the face, jaw and throat.
White Fillings
White fillings are made from strong composite material, which is made of resin and tiny particles of glass. Unlike silver (amalgam) fillings, white filling material sticks to teeth and comes in an array of colours that can be accurately matched to each individual tooth.
Dental Veneers
Veneers are wafer-thin shells of tooth-coloured material (which can be either porcelain or composite resin material). They are “cemented” to the front surface of teeth to improve their appearance. Many dentists use the analogy that dental veneers are for your teeth what false fingernails are for your hands. Veneers are an ideal way of treating discoloured or unsightly teeth, closing smaller gaps between front teeth, or repairing chips and cracks.
Dentures
You can either be fitted with a complete denture which replace all your teeth and also gives support to your cheeks and lips, or a partial denture, if you still have some of your own teeth remaining. Partial dentures can be made from acrylic (plastic) or a fine metal framework of chrome cobalt. They are usually held in place by clasps or metal clips, which fit around some of your remaining natural teeth.
Gum Disease
Gingivitis means inflammation of the gums. This is when the gums around the teeth become very red and swollen. Often the swollen gums bleed when they are brushed during cleaning. You may notice blood on your toothbrush or in the water you have rinsed your teeth with. Your gums may bleed when you are eating, leaving a metallic taste in your mouth, and your breath may smell unpleasant.
