CHIMNEY SWEEPING
Most chimneys are swept using the traditional method of rods and brushes which has worked for the past 150 years. The correct rods and brushes are chosen that best suit the particular flue type, as incorrect brushes/rods may damage the flue. Where traditional methods are not as effective specialised equipment is used. We are equipped for large inglenooks and older fireplaces and chimneys found in many listed buildings.
CHIMNEY RELINING
Everyone using a chimney is responsible for it's maintenance.
A duct that is poorly maintained, or remains unused for a long period of time, can be problematic and even dangerous. There is a risk the flue won't draw properly with potential problems of condensation, leaks, deterioration of masonry and even worse, risk of carbon monoxide poisioning or even catching fire.
STOVE SERVICING
Once a year your stove will need a service which would involve stripping, inspecting and cleaning the entire appliance. This will help to keep your stove working safely and at it's maximum efficiency
CHIMNEY DESCALING
Chimney descaling or power sweeping is needed when there is a build up of tar or glazed creosote. This can be caused by prolonged use of wet or unseasoned fuels.
Chimney descaling involves the use of specialised cleaning rods and a whip or chain attachment. This is then spun at a high rate inside the flue. It removes tar and crusted soot that conventional chimney sweeping cannot.
BIRD NESTS REMOVED
A bird creates a nest in a chimney by dropping nesting material down the flue until it stops, then building up from there. This may stop at bottom or near the top. Therefore it is possible to have the entire flue filled with nesting materials.
The nest needs to be broken up and removed from the base of the flue. It is not necessary to break into the chimney to remove a birds nest. Fitting a chimney cap on a disused flue or a cowl/bird guard to a flue that's in use will prevent birds from nesting in it.
CCTV/SMOKE TESTING
A CCTV inspection of a flue will enable us to detect the existence of many problems, such as breaches in the flue wall, blockages from poorly installed liners, birds nests, fallen debris or damage to the mid-feathers ( the brick partition between two flues). It will also show up problems like heavy tarring which will need more advanced sweeping measures to be removed.
