6 Lougharno close, Friars Hill, Wicklow town

From a young age, I had a great interest in manipulating fabric and creating garments. However, I pursued a Masters qualification in Pedagogy and worked in that area for a few years. Twelve years ago, I moved to Ireland to learn English and started working in retail which reconnectme with fashion. Becoming a mother was a light bulb moment to take a course in Fashion Design in Dublin Institute of Design and my second born was the definitive push to start my own business. So, with the support of my family and friends, in 2019 I decided to change my career and follow my dream resulting in SILVIA ORTEGA women clothing brand. My aim is creating aesthetic timeless clothes, that women can wear for different occasions. The clothes are fully made in Ireland in a small studio in Wicklow Town where I live. Working within the ethical, sustainable and slow fashion frame, I produced small collections in average sizes as samples that can be reproduced in any size depending on the demand in order to reduce the waste of fabric. Also, I keep small pieces of fabric that I use to embellish new garments or to make “waste 0” one of a kind unique piece. The garments are handcrafted with natural fabrics and materials such as silk, organic cotton, wool, linen and leather. Richness in texture shows through every collection achieve by mixing different fabrics or using fabric manipulation old techniques including weaving, smocking and quilting. A bit of boldness embellishes each design through vibrant silk linings, chunky zips, big buttons, draped pieces inserted into flat patterns, sheer fabrics, flounces and crochet within other features. All the garments are hand sewing finished with couture techniques. The designing process is especially important for me. Inspired mainly by nature, culture, architecture, and art, I believe that fashion can be art itself as making a garment is not just sewing pieces of fabric together, there is much more behind it and I would like my customers to join me in that journey because when you know the story of something it makes it more especial. I also offer bespoke services which vary from combining, removing, or changing some elements of my designs according to the customer needs, to creating a new whole design. Contact me and together we will create something unique for you! My designs are available at Om Diva and Marion Cuddy in Dublin. Online on this website or Etsy
