NEW DENTURES
Current are over 5 years. As a general rule people should consider replacing their dentures after 3-5 years – the life of denture is considered 5 years
i. For hygiene purposes a GP would recommend 3-5 years because it is worn every day and after 3-5 years
ii. For Function – the Gums shrink over time and therefore the denture does not fit as well as when it was made – possibly moving or lifting when eating or talking.. Also the teeth on the denture wear down over time
iii. For Aesthetics – the teeth wear down over time and may not look as natural anymore. Also with the gum shrinkage the height of the dentures may not be as accurate and the distance from nose to chin may be reduced.
